Hello. Thanks for stopping by.
My name is Matt. I have several years of teaching experience, but this coming year will be my second at the same position. Hooray for me!
I have a B.S. in Secondary Education with a minor in physics. I also have 30+ hours towards an M.Ed. and a semester towards a Ph.D. in physics.
I taught physics, physical science, and principles of technology in the 00-01 school year. The next three years, I was a general physics class and lab TA at the University of Maine while working on my Masters in Education and Ph.D.
The next 5 years were spent in the I.T. field working for 2 small companies as well as UPS. I enjoy working on computers and did everything from repair, installation, networking, and maintenance on PC’s as well as servers. I also did a lot of visual basic scripting and some SQL database work during that time. This was due to financial issues that teaching just couldn’t provide for. I knew I would return to teaching one day, but didn’t think it would be this soon.
Last year, I decided to move my family to Pennsylvania (where I grew up) and took a position in a medium sized private school teaching physics, chemistry, algebra II and algebra III/trig. My wife and I have 3 children ages 6, 9, and 11.
This year, I will keep physics, chemistry, and algebra II, but have asked to include an astronomy elective and we decided to drop the alg III/trig class in favor of a business math course to better suit students with no plans on a more rigorous college degree.
I have realized the need to use SBG and this is my voyage.
